Checking In: Doctor’s offices, going low, match play, NW golf trip
What has been going on with the golf game and life
Just wanted to update on what has been going on with the golf game and life.
Injury Update: It looks like I have completely recovered from Kienbock’s Disease, pending one final appointment at the end of the year. That is good news. Being in the cast for 4-5 months weakened everything in my forearm, and jumping headfirst into golf and hockey without strengthening everything back up led to developing tennis elbow, which has been a painful journey. I did get a cortisone shot (not fun) and have been doing PT. I’ve had to limit my playing time and have eliminated really practicing because it takes multiple days to recover.
It’s going to take a bit to fully recover here, and I’m going to be dealing with it for a bit. With the weather shifting, I will start focusing more on practice and swing development again and will need to adjust my scheduling accordingly.
Scoring: The elbow hasn’t been helpful, and scoring kind of increased for a bit, with the handicap topping back out at 19.9. After about 6 weeks of PT and learning how to manage the elbow, I’ve recovered with some good rounds, dropping the handicap down to 18.4, and it should be decreasing steadily from there. Last week I tied my personal best nine with a 39 on the front of Reserve South, including lipping out a 12-foot birdie putt on 9. (I also hit a really lazy and unfocused two-footer on 2 for par that I shoved by the hole.)
I’ve kind of settled back into the high 80s and low 90s, with a mid-90s round being a “bad round.” Hopefully, we have reached some stasis in the game.
Match Play: I’ve been playing in the NWGG team’s best ball match play and in a golf league, which is also the same format. In the NWGG tournament, we won our opening round match, with me draining a ten-foot putt on 18 to close it out. It was probably the most pressure I have felt standing over a putt ever.
In the golf league, we finished the regular season in third place and won our first playoff match, with me taking down four of the first five holes. We are now in the semi-finals.
Golf Trip: In early July, I did a golf road trip through Washington and Idaho, and I will review the trip in a series coming up.
How has your summer golf gone?
