My general initial takeaway is pretty good, but one thing I don’t do is hinge my wrist correctly. Because I don’t hinge my wrist, I don’t snap them coming through, and when you add that to pretty much swinging with my arms, there isn’t a lot of compression of the ball.
Expanding on previous lessons, we began to bring the hitch into my backswing, make the full turn, swing my lower body through the ball, lagging my arms, and then get my wrist through. This leads to compression; this leads to my wrists being out front and not scooping at the ball. This leads to a better golf swing.
I kept doing the same drill from last week, having my weight forward while keeping my alignment from the first lesson. Then just hinging my wrist more, bringing it through with my core, and snapping. While doing this, we detected one issue: I still bring my arms close to my body, and I call it t-rex arming it. (I am sure there is a technical definition.)
While using that drill, we set up a training stick to ensure I was adequately following through and not swiping through.
Getting my weight and my wrists forward individually have been the hardest things to do to improve my golf game. I am not going to lie. It has been a struggle to create that lag, but when I first started with this project and lessons, I wanted to swing properly, not adapt to what I was doing to lower my score. So, I am pushing through with it and dedicating the practice to creating that proper lag and weight shift.
Do you have proper lag?
