Okay Nerds, let's look at the numbers part 3: Where do I stack up
Diving back into the Garmin app to see how things are going
Back in January when I started this project I did a breakdown of my scoring stats based on the Garmin app. I wanted to take the time real quick to look at my stats and evaluate where I am at compared to other people with my handicap.
Jan Stats (21 HDCP)
Drive: 78%
Approach: 74%
Chip: 42%
Putt: 71%
Drive Distance: 57%
Current Stats (17.8 HDCP)
Drive: 79%
Approach: 62%
Chip: 29%
Putt: 93%
Drive Distance: 51%
I was kind of disappointed to see these numbers initially. Especially my approach and chipping numbers, both of which I feel have improved greatly specifically over the last two months. I thought maybe the data hasn’t caught up from earlier in the season when I was really in the midst of a swing change. Then I looked deeper into each category and felt a lot better about my progress.
I’m not hurting myself as much off the tee if I don’t hit the fairway as I was before. Over the last 3/4 weeks, I have been driving the ball as straight as I ever have so I am looking forward to seeing how much this changes over the next two months. My average distance has increased according to the Garmin App as well.
I have hit 8% more GIR compared to the beginning of the year, is that good enough overall? No. Is it an improvement? Yes.
My chipping is still pretty poor but to say it hasn’t improved would be incorrect. Just like my approach shots it still isn’t great but it is moving in the right direction. This is where I need to continue to focus on improving for sure.
And just for next time here was my putting data, I didn’t have a sensor on my putter earlier in the year so there wasn’t enough data to track. Here is where I am at now.
Overall it’s encouraging to see improvement. I am going to check back in on these numbers at the end of the posting season to see where I am at.
Where do you think you have improved your golf game this season so far?
