The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated

So, it has been a while since I have updated people on my progress. I have continued to work on my game, but a lot has happened over the last few months.

April: I was away every weekend that I didn’t have my son. Additionally, my instructor landed a teaching position for a few months which derailed lessons, between no instruction, travel, and the epic rain we had here in the PNW my practice and playing time were limited.

May: Was more of the same weather-wise and instruction-wise.

June: I had a long work trip to Boston, that included a couple of rounds of golf and a trip to the US Open, not have a ton of practice time but got back with my instructor. I began to rededicate myself at the of the month and have continued it to the early days of July. Oh, and I got a round at Chambers Bay in.

Where we at with:

Lessons: Lessons have focused on catching back up to where we were at, it also included the dreaded grip change which I have been struggling with. Additionally, we have focused more on chipping as of late, I feel like my iron play is coming along, but this month I am going to greatly focus my practice time on chipping because I feel like I am giving away the most strokes there.

Handicap: My handicap dropped early in the posting season but has gone up steadily, it peaked at 22.1 and has been declining since then.

Other metrics such as fitness etc.: Let’s not talk about that.

Status of my game: I feel like I am driving the ball the best I have in my life without resorting to any type of gimmicks like setting up in a baby draw stance or anything like that. We have spent a very minimal amount of time on my driver in my lessons and I am happy where it is at. (I’ve seen an average of 30% more fairways hit over the last month.)

My iron play is a bit of a struggle right now just because of the inconsistency of my swing. When I commit to the shot and swing properly it’s pretty good, when I overswing or revert to any type of past tendencies it’s awful. I need to get more consistency there.

Putting has been pretty good.

Chipping is an unmitigated disaster.

I’ll get more consistent with updating this. I really feel between now and the end of August we are going to see a massive jump.
